Claymore – Episode 2

Apr 13 2007 Published by Mina under Claymore

Short Summary:
In every town people are afraid of Clare. Raki really can’t understand this, as he gets to know her a bit more (emphasis on “a bit”). When they rest over night in the wils Clare walks off alone to meet a strange man in the dark (who was a bit too much interested in her body, in my opinion *cough*) who brings her new clothes and a black card. Afterwards Clare gets a room in a tavern for Raki. She wants him to stay there while she settles an unknown matter. In the tavern a man tells Raki some facts about Claymores, that they are some kind of experiment. Humans that took in the flesh and blood of Yomas, so they can defeat them. Their human part is necessary to controll the yoma part. But in the end, yo the man tells Raki, the yoma part wins. That means Clare is going to become a yoma. Instantly Raki runs after Clare to find out wether that’s true. He has to find out in a very cruel way. Clare is on a mission to kill the only friend she ever had, another Clamore, who can’t control the yoma-part of her anymore.
When this happens Claymore takes out a black card of her sword and sends it to another Claymore. The mission of the other Claymore is now to kill her as long as her heart is human.
My opinion:
After watching already some of the new season’s shows I have to admit Claymore is so far the best. Still I don’t know wether I continue watching it. To be honest I don’t plan to do so. The atmosphere is so depressing and desperate. But I’m sure this show will find many fans and I risk to predict it deserves them.

Opening: “Ankoku Tengoku” by Ali Project

Short Summary:
Karin’s parents are dead. She lives with her aunt, but always disappoints her with her bad marks. The only thing she’s got left from her parents is an old ring she always wears; her only friend is a cat called Shii-chan.
After Shii-chan dies, Karin decides to make a grave for her pet, there she meets Kazune for the first time. She thinks he’s a good looking boy, but he reacts to her mourning with a stupid comment and from now on Karin is angry and tries to kick him.
Next day she meets a very cute girl – Himeka. They become friends, but the problem is that Kazune seems to be her cousin and he drives Karin crazy, because he is curious about her ring. He and Himeka raise suspicion Karin could be the Kami they are looking for. Just that moment kKarin’s ring starts to glow. She thinks Kazune did this and runs away. Afterwards strange things happen around Karin – she gets good grades in math and physics. When she wishes for a rain shower to come it really happens. Can this all be coincidence?
In the end she meets Himeka and Kazune again. Before she can go mad Kazune tells her to forget about him and that he has got no intention in ruining her current lifestyle. He jsut bids her to be careful when she’s alone!
And what happens? When she goes to visit Shii-chan’s grave a strange guy shows up…

My opinion:
I’ve read the first three volumes of the manga, because I liked PitaTen a lot, but in my opinion Kami-chama Karin can’t reach the same entertainment level. Still the anime is cute so far, nothing special in particular, but typical Koge Donbo cute character design and a good portion of magical girl feeling. Perhaps I will continue watching!

Short Summary:
Junki’s father – a scientist – went missing, when Saiga Junki was still a child. Now years have gone by and Junki is high schooler together with his childhood friend Shiori. Recently he sees dreams about two giants fighting, while he pilots one of them.
One day his family receives a phone call that in a cave at a mountain, that is shaped like a pyramid, some of his fathers belongings where found, next to bone fragments of no human origin. Junki, his sister and mother visit the site. There Junki finds an old diary by his father, talking about the great warrior “Reideen” and a bracelet. Suddenly a comet falls down from space into a nearby lake. Out of the water rises a giant animal like robot. The dam breaks and the region is flooded.
While Junkis family, together with some police men and another scientist called Taro Maedasaki try to get away, Junki runs back to the site to fetch his fathers belongings. The giant robot seems to come nearer and nearer, directly moving to the pyramid mountain. With his bracelet Junki finds himself in big golden robot, coming out of the mountain. Junki’s naked and can’t explain why he is in a robot all of a sudden. Does he have to fight against the other giant?

My opinion:
I’m not espeacially a fan of the mecha genre, but after a long time this is the first mecha show that catches me with already the first episode. While the fighting robots move slowly and rather clumsy, the absence of daylight and impressive background music create a dark, oppressive atmosphere I appreciate a lot.
